Sun Salute was born in the snow fields of Victoria, Raised on the surf coast of Victoria and now reside in the tropical side of North Queensland.
After playing together during snow seasons at Falls Creek, Hayden Weke and Jarrah Kurth decided to take their love of reggae, hip hop and funky roots from the snow to the beach. They joined forces with fellow falls creek musician and good friend, Dylan hammond on bass and vocals and gathered an international cast of members. Chris Booroff on trumpet and guitar, Nestor Galapia on percussion, Saia Latu on keys/effects and vocals and Rueben Legge on saxophone.
Sun Salute are a wholesome brew of Reggae, Hip Hop and Funky Roots. They draw inspiration for their material from nature, travel, and the exploration of consciousness. They use themes and concepts from life’s simplicity to create songs rich in morality and positivity. Front man Hayden Weke from the north east of New Zealand brings his connection to Maori culture to the stage with traditional chants and indigenous message. Sun Salutes energy on stage is infectious. Sun Salute is on a mission to spread positivity through music. They have shared the stage with acts such as Katchafire, Xavier Rudd, The Beautiful Girls, Tiki Taane, Salmonella Dub, Tijuana Cartel, Nicky Bomba and many more.
